Discover What America Thinks about the Bible

Research by the American Bible Society asking Americans their opinions and practices relating to the Bible, all made possible by generous supporters.

What’s the State of the Bible in America?

Every year, since 2011, American Bible Society has reported on the State of the Bible in our country by investigating Americans’ relationship with God, faith, and the Bible. It’s our joy to share this data with church and ministry leaders to provide insights that help you engage your audiences with God’s word. In this year’s report, we will highlight key trends using our years of data and explore important contemporary questions like:

What is the current level of Bible use in the United States and how does this compare to previous years?

What are the favored formats and digital platforms for interacting with the Bible?

How does Scripture engagement in the United States compare to other secular countries?

What impact does Scripture engagement have on human flourishing?

How engaged are people at church? How does church engagement relate to Scripture engagement and well-being?

Is Bible engagement good for you? What impact does it have on overall well-being?

Does Scripture engagement impact a young person’s sense of purpose and direction and lead to a sense of identity?

“Each year, State of the Bible pursues a rigorous research agenda…

… It tracks key metrics year-over-year, and we look for connections to new horizons in the scientific studies of religion, well-being, and society. This information is our gift to the Church, helping us see our neighbors clearly and serve them with grace and truth.”
